Can you please tell me if Natural Calm (magnesium citrate) creates an acid or alkaline state in the body as a result of consumption?

Lemons are acidic but alkalizing to the body. I drink a lemon every morning to help alkalize my body. I know it seems illogical but I know from all the research that it does.

Its whats left over after digestion has taken place that counts. After passing through the stomach (and stomach acid) and being hit with enzymes, whats left is an alkaline ash. Think of fire wood being burned up, whats left after the digestive fire?

Minerals have to be in an acidic state to get absorbed into your body. Natural Calm is a proprietary blend of Magnesium carbonate and citric acid and the pH of the Natural Calm drink is acidic. The actual pH took a number of years to figure out the optimal amount to maximum bioavailability. After the magnesium is absorbed it is put in a form that allows your body to utilize it.

Citric Acid is a “weak” acid that is easily eliminated via sweat and respiration. It is alkaline forming in that it stimulates the formation of magnesium carbonate in the body. Magnesium carbonate then neutralizes the “Strong” acids in the body, acids that can only be gotten rid of through urination, including uric acid which is the end result of protein metabolism. If you dont have enough carbonate to neutralize the acid in your body, your body will pull magnesium from your muscles or calcium from your bones to create what it needs.

In citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons, the mineral content also has to be taken into consideration. Lemons have many alkaline minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and Selenium. After the citric acid has done its job to transport the minerals, it is easily eliminated and one is left with a very alkaline ash to alkalize the body.

So Natural Calm is a very alkalizing drink.

This is the first “Blog” to which I have responded, so please excuse any errors in form.

Natural Calm (NC) was introduced to me approximately four years ago. I began to use NC for insomnia and as a supplement to increase my energy level. We were blessed in Portland, Oregon to have a world-renown pediatrician named Lyndon Smith, M.D. who often would propound the benefits he saw in his practice with the supplementation of magnesium. Conditions ranging from allergies to behavioral problems in children could be helped if not eliminated by giving children daily dosage of magnesium. He also stated that anecdotally he received reports that lethargic children would become happy and energetic and even some cravings (e.g. chocolate) would stop when the kids were receiving these magnesium supplements.
It seems a contradiction that both energy level could be increased at the same time insomnia addressed, but this has been my experience using NC. I have been attempting to explore the mechanisms of just how NC works, and have been considering the possible alterations in pH of the body. The explanation you have included makes much sense as to acid/alkaline balance, and is a useful part of my exploration.
    Thx.

We update our blog when someone presents us with an interesting question or when we have time. Unfortunately, the former is when most of the blogs get created.
